"Without fear we want to set sail for the digital sea, facing the open waters with the same passion that has governed the ship of the church for two thousand years." - Pope Bendict XVI

Pope Benedict's perspective on Catholic liturgy

You might know that Cardinal Ratzinger/Pope Benedict has made some critical comments about the state of Catholic liturgy, such as "I am convinced that the ecclesial crisis in which we find ourselves today depends in great part upon the collapse of the liturgy." Instead of celebrating the sacred mysteries, "the community is only celebrating itself." He sees "a need for a new liturgical movement to call back to life the true heritage of Vatican Council II."

The article linked below is very helpful for understanding how Pope Benedict views the state of Catholic liturgy. It offers a concise history and background of his views from an unbiased perspective. An excerpt:
"Some claim that the pope is undoing the Second Vatican Council... others claim that he is working to implement faithfully the vision of the Second Vatican Council, which means undoing the mistakes and misinterpretations of the past forty-five years... the truth is probably somewhere in between."
